Did you hear that? - 2
I’ve been listening to more music, because I win at life.

Pink + Green - Venetian Snares. I hadn’t heard Venetian Snares until very recently. I’ll warn you now, this isn’t for everyone, so you may want to find a review of the latest Mika album and listen to that instead. I was over at a friends and he, somewhat anti-socially, put on Rossz Csillag Alatt Szueletett. I really liked it. I thought it sensible to find more Venetian Snares and plug it directly into my face.
Venetian Snares sounds like the sort of music that you might have a nervous breakdown to. Or induce one with. Or reward yourself with after listening to two consecutive albums. It bears all the hallmarks of the fairground music you’d hear if Joseph Merrick had been in charge of the freak show, rather than just playing a crucial bit-part in. What I’m basically saying is that Venetian Snares is quite difficult to listen to if you’re dead set on hearing a simple happy song. It’s heavy dirty electronic noises that follow a structure you can understand, but they don’t do it happily. There are flashes of melody, there are moments of calm, but they’re surrounded by pounding, brain breaking glee.
Generally, at this point in reviews, the reviewer mentions something that might sound like what they’re reviewing. I’ll do that now, as convention is quite useful sometimes. It’s a bit like an angry Canadian spitting on you and criticising the brand of trainer you’re wearing while pummeling you in the face with a laptop. It’s dark. If you went to a rave and someone put this on, you wouldn’t have a clue what to do. You might start a fight. You might just weep in the corner while trying to force yourself to be sick because the bass is messing you up, blood. If you took some drugs before listening to this, you’d probably laugh at it because it’s really doing your head in. That means it’s really good.
If you find yourself in need of some music to play while breaking some chairs, this is for you.
If I had a star-rating system, it would be out of 5. Pink+Green would get 4 and a half stars, because I’m allowed to give half stars.
